2021 record year for home sales!

City of Calgary, Jan. 4, 2022 – Thanks to exceptionally high sales in December, 2021 was a record year for home sales. Calgary sales reached 27,686 units this year, nearly 72 per cent higher than last year and over 44 per cent higher than the 10-year average.

 “Concerns over inflation and rising lending rates likely created more urgency with buyers over the past few months. However, as is the case in many other cities, the supply has not kept pace with the demand, causing strong price growth,” said CREB® Chief Economist Ann-Marie Lurie.

Nestled next door to the Sherwood Park Nursery at 22054 Township Road 522, 5 Freedoms Ranch Rescue and Rehabilitation  is likely one of the best kept local secrets. 

The local 40-acre sanctuary rescues all kinds of equines — horses, donkeys, and mules — that are suffering from neglect, abandonment, abuse, as well as from meat kill buyers. Currently, the site is caring for approximately 90 animals.

“I don’t know how many we’ve rescued over the years. It’s definitely been a few hundred. It’s a moving number. I don’t stop and count very often,” noted Beverly Wilson, founder of 5 Freedoms Ranch Rescue and Rehabilitation.

The holiday season is quickly approaching and many are, or have already done, scurrying about finding beautiful and thoughtful presents to give to those they love or feel obligated to give something. It's a fun but stressful time of year. 

I don't have a long list of gift recipients anymore at this time of year. I buy something for those closest to me and those friends and family that I'm not as close to, get a phone call or we go out for dinner when we see each other again. It took me years to be comfortable with this system. I felt the need to spend hundreds of my hard-earned dollars just to cross someone off my list and then spend more money on shipping their gifts!
